Helping Seniors Stay Healthy, Independent, and Connected

Growing older looks different today than it did even a decade ago. While lifestyles continue to change, two things remain constant: older adults want to stay healthy and maintain their independence.

Catholic Charities Senior Nutrition supports adults age 60 and older by providing nutritious meals, social connections, and reliable access to food throughout Central Minnesota. Through congregate dining locations, Meals on Wheels, and frozen meal distribution programs, we help seniors receive the nutrition they need to live healthier, more independent lives.

Home-Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels)

Catholic Charities’ Meals on Wheels program delivers nutritious meals to homebound adults age 60 and older throughout Central Minnesota. The program helps seniors maintain their health, independence, and quality of life by providing regular access to nutritious food.

Recovering from surgery, illness, injury, or cancer treatment? Meals on Wheels can provide the nutrition and support needed during recovery. Services are available in designated areas, with costs based on an individual assessment.

Catholic Charities may also offer full-price meal delivery to individuals under age 60 who need temporary assistance due to illness or injury.

Senior Nutrition Volunteer Opportunities

Catholic Charities Senior Nutrition provides frozen meals Monday through Friday for seniors aged 60 and older at various pop-up distribution sites across central Minnesota. These healthy and nutritious meals meet one-third of the recommended daily allowance for seniors and are packaged in oven-safe containers that are easy to heat and eat in both conventional and microwave ovens. For more information please call (320) 229-4584.

Congregate Dining

Catholic Charities Senior Nutrition provides nutritious noon meals for adults age 60 and older at dining locations throughout Central Minnesota. These welcoming sites offer an opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal, connect with others, and support overall health and independence.

Meals are designed to provide approximately one-third of the USDA’s recommended daily nutrition and calorie needs for older adults. Menus are subject to change based on availability.

The full cost of each meal is $10.00, with a suggested contribution of $8.50 to $10.00. Meals are served Monday through Friday, and no eligible participant is denied a meal based on their ability to contribute.

Participants may also be able to use SNAP benefits to help pay for meals. Contact your local Senior Nutrition Coordinator for more information.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is a federal program that helps low-income individuals pay for food. It helps put food on the table each month.

It supplements food budgets, enabling Minnesotans to buy more nutritious food, including fruits, vegetables, whole grain foods, dairy products, plants and seeds to grow food. It is the cornerstone of the nation’s nutrition assistance safety net.
